A One-of-a-Kind Festival of Jewish life in Poland.

We are pleased to share with you the exciting news about an upcoming Jewish wedding, which will take place on June 22, 2014 at the spectacular White Stork Synagogue in Wroclaw. Together with the Jewish Community of Wroclaw and the Bente Kahan Foundation, Katka Reszke and Slawomir Grünberg have decided to turn their chuppah ceremony into a one-of-a-kind festival of Jewish life in Poland.

The wedding day – Sunday, June 22 – will be a day filled with music, dance, and art activities featuring Jewish leaders and artists from Poland and abroad. The event will be open to the public, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, making it an exceptional opportunity to experience contemporary Jewish life and culture as an authentic part of the Polish social and cultural landscape.

The bride and groom were both born in Poland, where they grew up unaware of their Jewish ancestry. They both went on to embrace and reclaim their Jewish heritage in adulthood. They met in 2007 and have since been bound emotionally, as well as professionally.  While they share their time between Poland and New York, they are both actively invested in the revitalization of Jewish life in Poland, also through their documentary films and writings.

We would like to invite you to become a partner in supporting this rare occasion and helping us create an unforgettable event showcasing real Jewish life in 21st century Poland.

The Synagogue

The White Stork Synagogue, which opened in 1829 when the city was known as Breslau, part of the Kingdom of Prussia, is a spectacular three-story neoclassical design by Carl Ferdinand Langhans. Rededicated in 2010 after a decade-long renovation, it is the religious and cultural center of the Wroclaw Jewish community, under the auspices of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland. It is the only synagogue in Wroclaw to have survived the Holocaust.

The final stage of the restoration of the White Stork Synagogue, which took place between 2008 and 2010, was made possible with funds from the EEA Grants (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) as well as funding from the city of Wroclaw, the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland and its Wroclaw Branch, and the Bente Kahan Foundation, the leader of the renovation project.
